The Prom Queen (1992) - Plot & Excerpts

If you enjoyed this review check out my others on my Blog :http://abonkersbookaholic.blogspot.co.ukBook name - The Prom QueenSeries - Fear StreetAuthor - R.L StinePage count - 168 pagesTime spent reading - 13th - 14thReview :The prettier pristine edition (with the girl wearing a dress) was bought in August for 10p in my favourite charity shop in the world and the ugly battered edition I bought -so I could keep the alternative edition in flawless condition- for 10p in October.I should not have wasted money on two editions of this novel. In fact if my original edition wasn't one of my favourite horror covers ever two prom queen books instead of one would be donated.R.L Stine is one of my all time favourite writers yet I'm beginning to loose faith in his stories after what I've recently read by him.The title of the novel deceives as it's not even prom-orientated except for a maximum of 8 pages worth of writing. I would have preferred it if the whole plot line took place on Prom night -instead of just the last unnecessary chapter - and the Prom Queen candidates were being killed during the dance. What actually happened was the plot was a replica to another Fear Street and R.L Stine novel named My Secret Admirer. In both books the murders, accidents, dramatic ending sequence and in general basis of plot has the setting of the auditorium in which the main character attends rehearsals for a play in. Coincidence or Marketing scam ?If you enjoyed this review check out my others on my Blog :http://abonkersbookaholic.blogspot.co.uk

Despite the fact that none of the characters are all that likable, THE PROM QUEEN is still en epic foray into old school cheese. I seriously just can't get enough of these books. For the bad, the characters really aren't redeeming. They all go on dates with one of their friends' boyfriends behind her back and they do it shamelessly. They're all self-centered, one's exceptionally bitter and it's not like these girls have revelations at the end of the book that fix these issues. That's just how they are. They're just not appealing. But the plot? Pretty awesome. I was definitely wrapped up in it, trying to figure out who the murderer was and why. Quite frankly a plot to kill prom queens is kind of dumb but the girls come up with some pretty good motives for why. None of them were right but at least their heads were in the right place.I didn't see coming who the murderer was. Even in hindsight it was hidden pretty well. Granted I don't actively look for this kind of stuff and I'm not someone that picks up on it too easily so someone else could rightly guess the murderer immediately. I didn't and was kind of shocked when I did find out.You guys know me by now; I'm a sucker for cheese and THE PROM QUEEN has it in spades. But I love it. Despite it's gouda essence, it'll still make you think twice about sitting in your room alone at night. It'll still make you wonder about your friends. It's still a good horror book and I've said it before and I'll say it again, the YA world needs far more of them.

What do You think about The Prom Queen (1992)?

This book is dated but I really like the idea of prom queen getting killed and I read many books with this idea-of not so original victims. The killer, I should of know it was her. I also like the cover art.

This was an unintentionally hilarious read.Girls are ridiculously jealous.Poor people are ridiculously jealous. The main character doesn't even live on Fear Street.

I will always love R.L. Stine's Fear Street series, even if the characters are awful and the twists ridiculous. The Prom Queen was less predictable than the others, and the only redeeming character was the main one, when she wasn't berating another character for his "weirdness." Though the plot was somewhat familiar, I enjoyed seeing it at the high-school level (where the ridiculous twists come in!) One of the characters made a comment about mourning the dead despite not being particularly fond of them when they were alive, which, even in its bitterness, makes sense. Stine always manages to insert tidbits of real-world advice we can apply to our often less murder-drenched lives. It was still creepy to read this late in the night, though.
