The Psychic And The Sleuth (2012) - Plot & Excerpts
I've read other books of this author duo and I liked them so much that I downloaded this one without thinking twice, looking forward to another great holiday read. It has it all - believable, interesting characters, fantastic atmosphere (these two ladies really know how to capture the spirit of that time... takes you right there) and a good plot that makes the book fun to read, far from a weak storyline that drags on between bedroom scenes. I saw the tag about domineering but didn't mind because although I'm not into the sub/dom genre, it's usually different with m/m novels because we all know men tend to be testosterone-driven, and if man meets man, well, one would expect the odd battle for domination, right? But there's this dogleash thing that was too much for me, and not only because it goes against everything I find sexy, but because of its suddenness (I hadn't expected it at all), its intensity and its, well, I would even go so far and call it cruelty although Oliver seems to like it well enough.Well, I didn't and it pretty much ruined the rest of the book for me.So here's a warning: take this tag and its implied warning very very seriously. If you can't find joy in domination games, don't buy this book. It goes way beyond your usual 'f***ing it out between each other' approach. I was quite psyched, yes pun intended, to find out who the killer was and how they were going to catch him but then the main characters relationship suddenly involved a leash, dog playing, whips and other objects. I found quite upsetting too that their relationship involved a lot of demeaning positions for Marsh and I don't mean just sexual ones. I started losing interest quite fast after the appearance of such gems, I gotta admit. I still feel somewhat interested to know what happens in the end about the murderer but I find I can't summon enough curiosity to actually suffer through the rest of the book.
