The Rancher Takes A Bride (2000) - Plot & Excerpts
I enjoyed this book about Travis and Rose, as they journey into discovering each other. Rose (stage name - Desiree) is a medium who reads people's palms and holds séances. Travis's mother wants to discover what has happened to her missing son, Tanner, who left to battle in the Civil War. Travis does not believe in the talents that Desiree has. Travis gets Rose's shop shut down and runs her out of town so she cannot con his mother and other unsuspecting victims.Eugenia (Travis's mother) thinks that Rose would be perfect for her son because she has spirit and determination. And Eugenia is tired of waiting for a grandchild. Since Travis won't get married on his own, Eugenia feels the need to step in and help. Claiming that Rose stole her ring, she sends Travis after Rose to get her ring back.What follows is a humorous tale of how Travis and Rose discover each other and grow as a couple. When Rose discovers that Travis has had her investigated, the relationship hits a rocky patch. Can the two of them work things out or is another path leading Rose elsewhere? Schemeing, interfering, mama,Eugenia is a scary and likable, but thank goodness my mother is nothing like her. I spent much of the story feeling bad for Rose and Travis for all of the meddling that his mother does. If I were Rose I would ask for her to live in a different house or country- what a nightmare for a mother-in-law! Travis is a self-righteous pain in the backside. I really wanted to hate him too. But the story just pulled me in and tangled me up much like Eugenia's web of lies and I just couldn't escape or put the story down. Fun.
