The Riding Crop (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

I enjoyed this free read and it definitely left me wanting to read more from Karyn Gerrard. The story is short but very hot, I just felt it was a bit unbelievable the way the relationship started to develop so quickly. I know I'm probably being fussy because it is a short story but I'd have preferred it if the author hadn't tried to give me a HEA at the end. Still an enjoyable read though and worth checking out - especially since it's a freebie A rather confusing story that promises more steam than it delivers. I will give it this: despite the short length, the author does manage to make the characters come alive and seem real to the reader. They aren't just cardboard cutout stereotypes, or at least not entirely so. It's easy enough to feel empathy for both of them, but rather difficult to believe that either would have as sudden a change of heart as they do. I can kind of see why he would have had such an epiphany that he'd be seeking to make a change in his lifestyle, but it's hard to understand why she would be willing to make any major changes to hers so suddenly. What sex there is here is ok, but nothing that's going to have you fanning yourself. Those looking for a BDSM read should be aware that this only has a minimum of it, and it is limited to a small amount of flogging, so likely won't fit the bill if you're looking for more than that. Overall, while I liked the characters and the characterization well enough and would give it higher marks on that score, things happen way too abruptly and with little reasoning given for why the characters would choose the way they do for it to be very believable, and that keeps it at just a 2 star read for me.

What do You think about The Riding Crop (2012)?

Short, steamy story. It's good to read something this length in between long novels
