Very interesting read, thorough while still staying focused on the most important parts primarily. Interspersed with quotes and passages from classical authors, which adds an important dimension to the narrative, namely: how the Romans themselves saw their historical evolution and the changes that came with it.Would not recommend it as a first source of information on the Roman Republic, though, might be a bit hard to follow for somebody without a rudimentary understanding of the Mediterranean in the republican era. A comprehensive history of the rise of the city state and Republic of Rome. This covered the main events both historical and mythological and gave a decent overview of the main actors through the end of the days of Marius and Sulla. I found that the story telling occasionally got in the way of a chronological presentation of the history but I guess this isn't surprising given the scope of the history involved. All in all a good and fairly quick read, I recommend it.
Good book, lots of information in an easy to understand format. Very enjoyable.
