Poor writing and even worse structure - the long chase through the gorge completely stops the story in its tracks - make this one to avoid. The painful attempts at banter between Payne and Jones go from annoying to downright embarrassing. There are so many better authors writing this kind of stuff. By the way, if you're going to build a novel almost entirely on research and historical facts, be careful to get it right. Berlin isn't Germany's biggest airport, and the second castle near Neuschwanstein is Hohenschwangau, not Hohenschwanstein. I picked this up at a store that was offering 3 books for the price of two(Landmark,India).the blurb at the back was mildly interesting , and I thought that once I get home I could research more about the story on Goodreads. This is my first book by this author, and I really enjoyed it. I understand that this is the sixth book in the series, but it does pretty well as a standalone. The history was interesting and informative, and the plot thankfully not unrealistic. Now I am waiting to attack the other books by the author.
What do You think about The Secret Crown (2010)?
Not as good as his other books. Really didn't like the way this one ended.
