The Sleepy Little Alphabet: A Bedtime Story From Alphabet Town (2009) - Plot & Excerpts
This book is a cute book that I would use in Kindergarten classroom when starting to discuss the alphabet. I gave the book 2 stars because I thought it was a good way to review the alphabet. I thought it was cute how the author had the letters of the alphabet doing things to get ready for bed, but nothing really caught my eye about this book. I was not impressed with the content or with the way it tried to tie the letter sound to sounds in the sentence about that letter, but it was a cute idea for a story. I would place this book on the bookshelf in my classroom for children to use when reviewing the alphabet, but am not sure I would use it during a lesson. As a tool used for bedtime, I found this book to be great! This book talks about the routines before bed, but also incorporate alliterations to help the young reader learn the alphabet by linking certain letters to their same sounding words. When I refer to the "young reader" I would be specific as to children who are in kindergarten or below. This is a good example of an "ABC" book and follows the same audience that would generally be reading an ABC book. The illustrations were great. I loved that the colors became softer towards the end of the book and closer to 'bed time'. It would be great to help a child wind down from a busy day.Overall, I would give this book 4 stars.
