This was my favorite of the three prequel short stories to The Returned. A couple find a young girl alongside the road and decide to take her home with them. The woman sympathizes with the girl and does everything she can to help her, including trying to find her family. The man doesn't believe she is a real girl or that she deserves help. It makes for an interesting mix of love and disgrace. The couple take a different stance on many things throughout the story. I enjoyed the girls story and liked the ending. Another great prequel to 'The Returned' - read it after I had read the main book but this did not detract from it at all, indeed probably better to read it afterwards. This is the tale of Heather and Matt who find 'Returned' Tatiana beside an American highway although she had died during the civil war in Sierra Leone. Her presence puts a strain on Heather and Matt's relationship as they disagree as to what to do with her.
An intriguing prequel! Excited to read The Returned!

The second prequel was such a sweet but sad story.
