The Spook's Blood (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

Lure of the DeadJoseph Delaney Lure of the Dead is a young adult fiction book in the series The Last Apprentice. This is the first book when Thomas Ward has to start acting like a Spook and not an apprentice. Tom and his master, John Gregory, one of his old apprentices Judd Brinscall, Tom’s good friend Alice, and the help from Grimalkin the Witch Assassin, must defend the sack holding the Fiends head from his minions. “His head looked a lot smaller. His eyes were gone and he was still missing his front teeth.”(Delaney) The dark enemies attacking Tom and his companions this time are like nothing anyone has seen, Romanian witches. “We can keep him alive with only his head, but he is suffering imaginable.”(Delaney) One of the most powerful creatures yet. The reason why Tom got into this mess was to get books for the Spooks new library. Since the Spooks library was burned down, and hundreds of information of fighting the dark with it, the library needed more books. But when they showed up, it is nothing they expected. Will Tom and his friends all make it out alive or Death come with his scythe? Lure of the Dead is a rollercoaster of a book. One minute it will all be going well, but then something huge will turn up. There is no way that you could stop reading this book. You may want to put it down, but then you will read the next page and you will keeping reading. Delaney really made another good book. This book, in an amazing series, may be one of the best in it’s series. He really did a good job making you addicted to it. I would absolutely recommend this book. I would say the youngest you should read this book is thirteen. There is a lot of violence in it. I wouldn’t give an oldest age you should read it because I don’t think you could be too old for this book.I would give this book a five out of five stars. I say this because like earlier, you can’t put it down. There are so many good plot twists that shock you. Also, I think the author did a good job making it the opposite of boring. I can’t stand reading a 200 page book of love drama or something of that genre. I need that fight as soon as possible and as much as possible. That is what this books gives you. And it doesn’t stop throughout the book. Hmm... I thought I had written a review before for this. I guess it didn't come through. There aren't many books that can keep my undivided interest for four hours (280 pages). But this book was certainly able to do so. It was nice to be back in Tom's mind. This tenth book in the series both answered some questions, and asked many many more. I am greatly anticipating the final three installments (and the sequel series).
