The Story Of The Human Body: Evolution, Health, And Disease (2013) - Plot & Excerpts

A layman's explanation of the basics of human evolutionary biology. This book was interesting and fun to read. After a chronological journey through the evolution of hominids, Lieberman talks about some of the evolutionary mismatches that we encounter in modern life as a result of cultural evolution. Finally, he proposes possible solutions to the problems that these evolutionary mismatches cause. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. One of the best non-fiction books I have read in the last couple of years. Daniel Lieberman explains so lucidly about how we evolved from Apes to Humans, Out of Africa, Shared Neanderthal genes, Hunter Gatherer way of living followed by settling down and agriculture. He then moves on to why some of our current predicaments including Diabetes, Heart Disease, Osteoporosis, back pain and certain cancers are possibly mismatch ailments. Along the way he explains what cholesterol, fats, carbs and proteins do, how heart disease and diabetes occur and then concludes very briefly with his view of what the future could be be. I found this book very interesting. It should appeal to non-technical readers as well as students and practitioners of the sciences.
