Antagonist hopes to ruin the damsel who refused him. Hero steps in to save the lady who arguably could save herself. Milan not only recycles this plot from a previous book, but a previous book in the same series. Ouch.This was okay. Free is clever. The hero talks a lot about being a scoundrel. There's some posturing about politics and a lesbian C-story. It's really just there. I'm not sure I needed this one to round out the series. Another great story by this author! The witty banter between the hero and heroine in this book is outstanding. It kept me smiling the whole way through. In some ways, Edward is a bit of an unlikely hero, but I adored him. Free is another "Milan heroine"---strong, independent, ahead of her time. What stood out to me as well is the fact that this couple actually talked about their issues. There were no contrivances or "misunderstandings" that lasted longer than their next face-to-face. Refreshing!I recommend this to fans of historical romance.
