The Supermodel's Best Friend (A Romantic Comedy) (2011) - Plot & Excerpts
2.5 starsI could've liked this book. It had potential. Some funny moments, an interesting concept, a setting that lent itself to comedic moments but most of it just felt flat and awkward. The main characters, for being 34 were both just a bit immature and unsure of themselves. But the real reason I just couldn't get myself to really enjoy this book was our heroine, Lucy. She was upright and probably a little bipolar with a hint of multiple personality disorder. Her actions were just not consistent, her character overall was not consistent. She often did things that absolutely contradicted everything she said or even actions she had just taken. You never know which way is up with her. Her obsession with marriage, children, her plan, and her stupid lists was borderline neurotic. It was all so annoying. I just couldn't relate to her or find myself liking her in any way. As such, I could not see a connection between her and Miles. Definitely not enough of a connection for them to be professing their love for each other after less than a week of knowing each other, several days of which they didn't even speak or see each other. What could they possibly have loved about each other? They didn't even really know anything about each other - well other than the fact that they enjoyed screwing each other. Just wasn't feeling this one. This was a goofy, cute, and real romance. Despite the many elements that should have put the characters at an unrelatable level (billionaires, millionaires, models, etc.) they all seemed like ordinary fun characters. Miles is not the smooth, womanizing, commitment phobic man I was expecting from the description and Lucy was definitely practical and calculating about relationships, but not to the depth I was expecting. There was more depth from each of the characters right off the bat and I loved it. I really enjoyed the book as a whole and think it was simply adorable. Good read!
