The Time-Traveling Fashionista On Board The Titanic (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

(slowly but surely I'm going to get back to writing reviews)This is strictly three stars. But that's not to mean it was bad because I did quite enjoy it. And well, it's the sort of story I'd read to my daughters. I found it odd that I couldn't quite relate to the main character due to her being twelve yet could absolutely relate to her because, well, she's a time traveling fashionista. This books screams me. It was made for me. She just needs to be older. I felt this wasn't aimed at the right crowd. Though a thirteen year old might scratch their head at names like Marlon Brando (totally disagree about him being the greatest actor of all time. Bogey all the way), it taught about the Titanic and my did she do her research. I even learned a bit. So in that regard, when looked at in that angle, it's really quite well suited for a younger age group. Seeing as I was expecting this to be older since I found it in the young adult section, I was a bit taken aback. Now I must speak on behalf of the artwork as it was so beautiful. As if the title itself didn't make me snatch this up, the art would have been enough. Each piece was beautiful and suited the story well. I thought it was a perfect touch. You know, I wish young adult books did have illustrations. It would be so cool to read your favorite adventures with some beautiful pieces to go with it. I'm obsessed with this artist.Despite the rather naive voice of the book, I really did quite enjoy it and will be picking up the next one, which happens to center around one of my all time favorite historical figures. And seeing as I'll know what to expect from the voice after the first one, I get the feeling I'll enjoy it even more. And I must add, when she didn't respond to the boy and walked in the opposite direction I was fairly certain that scene was my dating life in a nutshell. Ha ha ha!

What do You think about The Time-Traveling Fashionista On Board The Titanic (2012)?

Louise, a 12 year old "modern" Connecticut girl obsessed with vintage fashion, receives an invitation to attend a traveling vintage fashion sale, just in time for the school dance! She finds the perfect pink dress and when she tries it on she is suddenly transported nearly 100 years into the past and into the body of a 17 year old movie star! Louise finds herself on an extravagant state ship with famous people she's learn about in history class, and also a famous fashion designer, but she has to pretend to be Alice Baxter (the movie star who's body she has borrowed). If that wasn't challenging enough, she discovers that she is not just on any cruise ship, but probably the most famous ship in history! Can Louise find her way back to Connecticut, or can she change the course of history and avoid going down with the ship? What works: This book includes several beautiful watercolors of dresses and scenes of the ship. They are a sight to see even if the plot is not your cup of tea. I greatly appreciated that this was a book about a girl (young woman) with a cultivated interested that she took pride in and not once was it complicated by a relationship with a boy. Yes, Louise is interested in boys, and even has a flirtation with a boy on the ship, but when she finds out he's married she drops him like the creep he is. It is refreshing to see a girl with a identity that is not centered around a boy, but one that is wholly her own. What doesn't work: Louise is written as an older teen and doesn't act like the 12 year old that she is supposed to be. She does spend most of the book in the body of an older teen, and there is when her character feels most authentic. The idea of the plot is good but it is executed poorly. There was a lot of build up, and then the action spiraled out of control and ended abruptly.
