The Trouble With Boys The Trouble With Boys The Trouble With Boys (2008) - Plot & Excerpts
It took me a long time to get through it. You don't really read this book, you absorb it. It is a real life horror story about the state of affairs when it comes to educating boys. I had suspected as much as an elementary teacher and now as a secondary teacher. Boys and girls learn differently and when we don't acknowledge this, then we are setting up the US and the world for failure. I don't know what will happen. I think that Peg does well at writing and reporting her findings. Oh its definitely biased but it doesn't feel biased and she reports both pros and cons of the equations which I find is fair. She covers all types of atypical and typical factors and the disturbing trend in admitting males to colleges which makes me just crazy. I would recommend this book to any parent or educator who is trying to reach the battle for our boys. It's a good read. Absorbing and illuminating, this book is a must read for any parent of boys, and should be required reading for all teachers. Whether or not you believe in gender-specific issues in development and schooling, it is hard to argue that school is set up for non-visual, non-kinesthetic learners, and that these learners -- mainly boys -- suffer under the rules, restrictions, and expectations of their far more often than not well meaning teachers.

I'm loving this so far. I'm hoping to read a lot more suggestions of what to do with my boy.
