This is a fun quick read of fantasy romance full of princesses, princes, and lukewarm politics. The characters are all amusing, each with distinct personalities and cute in their own ways. Flian's introduction and relationships with the other characters begins with an unexpected start but develops in interesting ways.Overall the court scenes and repartee were some of the best parts of the book. This is definitely one of my favorites by Sherwood Smith though not as compelling as Crown Duel. I'm so lost... I feel like I walked into a room full of people I don't know, in a place I don't know, and I have no idea what is going on. There was no set up for the characters, no set up for the world, and really no set up for anything. I had to check to make sure this wasn't a sequel or something! I normally love Sherwood's books, but this was just so confusing I felt awkward reading it. Stopped after chapter 4.
What do You think about The Trouble With Kings (2008)?
This was a fun book! Not as complex as some of her others, but it was still a good read.

Not my type of heroine but a good story nevertheless.
