The Whispers Of The Fallen (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

I received this ebook in exchange for an honest review, and these are my thoughts on this superbly written story. The author was nice enough to send both The whispers of the fallen and its sequel. This is something I'd never find myself reading and it was by far really interesting to read. Who would've ever imagined this of Lucifer having a diary and seeing all of the feelings and what not he felt and feel as though you were experiencing everything has you read page after page. The writing was a bit off but it entertained me quite abit and I loved the whole thriller factor it. J.D. did an excellent job creating both the plot and storyline and the characters extremely loveable. I don't think there was anything I hated about the story that I wouldn't say anything good about it. But if you want an interesting ride with a supernatural read this is definitely a book you will enjoy. I received this book in exchange for an honest review. This is my opinion, but yours may vary. I heard a lot good things about this book so I contacted the author and he was nice enough to send me a digital copy of the book. I couldn’t wait to dive into the story and lose myself in a fantasy novel about angels and Lucifer’s diary. However, I did not enjoy this book. I’m definitely in the minority here when I say that I thought this book, as a whole, was mediocre. What I loved about this book was the idea and concept behind it. I thought that the idea of fallen angels and Lucifer’s diary was such a compelling idea that I couldn’t wait to read about. But, the choices the author made in regards to pace, character development, and writing style made this book hard to enjoy. This story follows Isaac and his friend Demetre as they find out their bloodlines, along with countless others, are in charge of protecting Lucifer’s diary. The reader is immediately thrown into the action in the first chapter. The book gets you excited for the action and as a reader you cannot wait to see what happens next. But, as the action progresses in the first few chapters I couldn’t help but feel lost. I was constantly playing catch up with the story and felt incredibly disconnected from the plot and characters.Isaac was a very okay character. From the beginning of the book to the end of the book he went through a lot of choices and experiences, but I didn’t really see or feel any true character development. He felt very generic. However, the events he goes through and the choices he makes are incredibly action packed and fun.The biggest complaint I have with this book, which coincidently made it hard for me to read was the writing style. I think the author was trying to go for an older feel to the world and characters through the writing style, but it didn’t come across as that. The dialogue was awkward and tense since there were not contractions (I’m sure if this was an editing issue or a choice by the author). I understand that sometimes we don’t use contractions when we speak to other people, but most of the time we do so when I was reading the conversations between characters I felt removed from the book and had to concentrate harder to remain in the story. Also, because the lack of contractions the dialogue didn’t flow nicely. It felt choppy. Overall, I wish I could have enjoyed this book more since I loved the concept but some of the choices Netto made took me out of the story. I would recommend this book to people who are interested in a fantasy book with fallen angels.
