They Called Themselves The K.K.K.: The Birth Of An American Terrorist Group (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

This book can be painful to read, as it discusses some of the most horrifying events in United States history. This being said, it is still an important book to read in order to understand these events really happened and in order to not let them happen again. The book tells the story of how the Ku Klux Klan was formed and all of the horrible things they did to people that promoted racial equality. The book explains the reason the KKK had for what they did, as well as tells specific stories of people who were effected by this terrorist group. Although this book is good and tells about things that are important to recognize in history, I would not recommend it for elementary or middle school students. The book contains too much violence for them to read about at such a young age. One thing that made the book especially appealing and enforced the validity of the book were the personal stories spread throughout the book. This book was very interesting about what was going on in that time period about the group called the K.K.K. That stands for the Ku Klux Klan which was a group of mostly guys and rarely a women. They were brought together by their anger of blacks. They absolutely hated blacks. They had groups all over the black states. They would go to a black family's home and bring out whoever was in there. They would bring them out and either torture them with lashes from a whip or they would hang them or shoot them if they did something that they weren't supposed to do. I give this book a 3 out of 5 stars because it was interesting but after about 80 or so pages it got boring. It rich with information anymore like it was in the beginning. I would recommend this book to someone who wants to learn more of what the K.K.K actually did and how they got brought together and how it ended but i think they still have a group called the Ku Klux Klan somewhere in the united states.
