I couldn’t believe it’d taken me so long to piece it altogether. It’s funny, you make all these small notations: The river empties right into the Sound. She was hiking in the North Cascades. I don’t know what he’d do if the repeal hadn’t passed. They mean utterly nothing all by themselves. But when grouped together, they tell a story. Or in this case, a murder. I looked at the picture sitting on the seat beside me. At the library I’d done a quick Google of the Professor. He wasn’t hard to find. These nutjobs never are. His name was Theodore Koble. Grew up on a houseboat out in the Sound in the early 70’s. Received his doctorate in Animal Behavior from Seattle Pacific University and went on to teach the very subject at the very university.
