Tiny Little Fly. Words By Michael Rosen (2010) - Plot & Excerpts
Some of the biggest animals in the jungle try to capture an elusive fly. Though their methods are diverse, none of them succeed. Pencil and gouache illustrations manipulated digitally are great for predicting as each animal is only glimpsed at first. Texture is used to great effect on each of the animals hides and fur. Overall, a great read aloud with catchy pattern to the text that I'm sure listeners will begin to chime in on before story's end. My 4-year-old liked this book about a tiny little fly who bothers an elephant, hippo, and tiger. The repetitive words were good for a beginning reader and there weren't too many words per page. It was also fun to try to guess what animal the fly landed on. It starts, "My, oh my, Tiny Little Fly! Tiny Little Fly sees great big toes . . . " (the picture is the foot and tail of an animal but it doesn't show you it's an elephant until you turn the page).
