To Sell Is Human: The Surprising Truth About Moving Others (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

Good, but I'm not going to put it on the bookshelf because it doesn't quite stack up against things like The Charisma Myth. For example, instead of a list of tips or exercises at the end of a section he would just have a list of further reading and I'm thinking, I'm reading your book so I don't have to read all 10 of those. Also, although I some research books are great, like The Power of Habit, it always feels kind of empty when the author has no first hand experience of the techniques or strategies they are writing on. That being said, I got a few good tips and have ordered a few of the books he recommended. Finally finished reading "To Sell is Human: The Surprising Truth about Moving Others" (2013) by Daniel H. Pink. What caught my attention about this book is the title. His initial idea (or sales pitch) of how humans are inherently into sales intrigued, and the idea that people are either in sales selling or non-sales selling is something I never thought about. After reading his book Drive, I wanted to give his latest book a try.To be honest, it's not exactly the type of book I expected. I know that Pink isn't formerly a salesman, but I didn't expect the book to be something that's rather not sales-centric. It turns out to be more about giving, very much in a social sense rather than a business one.In the end, the book belongs to the same category of books that emphasizes giving and turning foes into friends, as what Adam Grant, Stephen Covey and Bob Burg would absolutely agree on. I still can take away some useful points, but it didn't really live up to my expectations. There are several points which I can't help but to agree:1) Everyone is in sales, just not necessarily in monetary sense. Sales, basically, is all about persuasion and moving people.2) Sales is a stigma: people don't like those in sales.3) Sales should be secondary to giving.NEXT BOOK: "Mistakes Were Made (But Not By Me)" (2007) by Carol Tavris and Elliot Aronson.
