The second book in the Nathan McBride series. I gave the first book the benefit if the doubt and awarded 3 stars based on it being the authors first book, hoping the 2nd would improve on it's wooden character but am afraid it doesn't!Thus one revolves around the man hunt( first book was man hunt too....wonder what the 3rd is!) of the guy who tortured McBride. The characters are still wooden, they lack depth and realisim. The dialogue is stoked and not how people speak to each other. It all feels just like a script for a 80'saction B movie, all very Chuck Norris. The author also goes over the top on detail. The author is not a bad writer, and the book would be really quite good if he only showed a little more reality with characters and dialogue. At the end I expected a little Stars and Stripes to pop out the top of my kindle whilst the Star-Spangled Banner played!Comment Comment | Permalink I always love a good action novel, especially one where the action starts on the first page and doesn't let go until the story is over. But what I love more is an action novel that gives you all the heart pumping action with character development and a story. And that is what Andrew Peterson does with this series.I was an instant fan of Nathan McBride in First to Kill and became an even bigger one in this installment. I always knew that Nathan was tough as nails and a true bad-a**, and I always knew there was more to him, I mean hello the author only alluded to it throughout the entire first book, but in this book we finally get a glimpse into the dark side of Nathan. Finally getting a better understanding of all his little quirks and are given a glimpse into the reason behind his nightmares, the reasons he attacks things head on and never backs down. We are finally able to see that even this hard core sniper has a vulnerable side. And I loved every glimpse! And not only did Nathan develop but the side characters did too, though not as much. I'm hoping there will be more of Harvey and Holly's story in the next installment! I think that really is the only thing that could have made this book better, but even without it I was completely blown away.Along with character development and incredible action we are given bread crumbs to follow as we too try to figure out the truth behind the governments wishes, but we are never given enough to figure the truth out too early. Which I love, there is nothing worse than reading a story where you already know the ending :(Nathan and Harvey make a great team and will take on anything for the sake of their country, friends or family. Definitely can't wait to get my hands on Option to Kill!
What do You think about Todesspiel (2014)?
Like the sequels Option to Kill and First to Kill, very good reads. Highly recommended.
