One parts X-Men, two parts action, and three parts crime drama, Tokyo Ghoul is a fantastic read that's well drawn and spectacularly written.TG's scope is wide and thorough. Staged in a world where ghouls (X-Men's mutants) run free, TG follows the tale of a young boy whose life is turned asunder upon being the benefactor of a freak organ transplant. The storytelling evolves thereon, exploring the humanity of these chaotic ghouls and the gray justice of those who pursue them. Mindful writing with incredibly graceful dialogue and a digestible amount of trope characters that actually have wonderful dimension to them.My only complaint is that the pilot series ended far too soon without really answering much of the world around it.Whatever. @_)(@# it. Read this series. It's awesome. Interesting concept. Pretty plain male lead, more interesting female lead. It set up the rest of the series pretty well and my favorites so far are Kaneki and Nishiki and Touka. My one issue was the artwork. Scrappy lines can be good or bad and we had a bit of both in this vol. Sometimes I couldn't tell what was going on in the action panels which isn't something you should have in a series that's going to be heavy on the action. All in all, a good first volume and I'm looking forward to reading volume two.
