Tom Clancy Presents Act Of Valor (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
"Act Of Valor" Is a fictional story written by a former US Navy SEAL to break the chain of unrealistic, superficial, and "hollywood" stories about SEALs that are written by authors that have little to no knowledge of the military or it's soldiers. It follows a squad of SEALs from the "Bandito Platoon" who are sent to hunt and eliminate Abu Shabal, an international terrorist and jihadist sympathizer. Leading them on a chase, Shabal causes the SEALs to go everywhere around the world from Somalia to the US-Mexico Boarder. All the missions portrayed in the story are based around missions real SEALs have been on. Not only is the story about the hunt for Shabal, but also about the families SEALs must leave behind when they do their country's work. I loved this book. The SEALs in "Act Of Valor" feel human, and at times vulnerable. They are truly down to earth and the camaraderie between them makes you feel like you know each SEAL personally. The action and the missions were absolutely gripping and got my heart pumping and my mind racing. The detail in the fire fights and movements put me right into the action and I could imagine every second. The book perfectly balanced the action of violence, and the sensitivity of SEAL families that must wait at home while their loved one fights to protect our nation. The book is entertaining the whole way through and never slows it's pace. Overall, this was a fantastic book. It is free from any type of unrealistic SEALs, unrealistic missions, and unrealistic dialog. The author made me feel like I knew the SEALs, their families, and their sacrifices. This book is less about the supermen SEALs are portrayed as, but more as a showcase of what kind of missions they do, what kind of capabilities they have, and what kind of life they live. It is certainly not an easy one, and "Act Of Valor" proves it. I enjoyed this book quite a bit. There were factual errors that made the book a bit hard to understand at times. Beyond this the plot is much overused, but this book goes more into detail about the social and family lives of the seals. Other than those two complaints I have nothing negative to say about this book. The entire book is full of suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat. There was also allot of action through out the book and despite these small errors, which didn't effect the story at all, I'm very glad I read this book and would encourage others to read it.
