Trials Of The Hierophant: Vol. II Of Epic Fantasy The Sundered Kingdoms Trilogy - Plot & Excerpts

The smoky air filtered out of her house through the open window into the cool spring morning which had only just broken. The heat from the fire blew past her cheeks as Aife fanned the coals, and she looked through the flames to the sigil carved into the stone in the back of the hearth. Carved for Blodeuyn, perhaps even by her own hand, the oak tree symbolized everything for which Arlais stood.
It was said in the arcanum when Blodeuyn sought to form the temple, she waited for a sign from the Goddess. One night, during the harshest storm in decades, a single bolt of lightning came down from the sky and split a mighty oak in two. Cleaved down the center of the entire tree, Blodeuyn took it as a sign of the duality of all things, and planted the foundation of Arlais on the very spot. A large timber from that very tree served as the mantle over the fireplace in the meeting house even after all the centuries which had passed.
In the past weeks, she remained in seclusion, deep in prayer.
