Fantastic book -- I can't wait for the next installment!!!Provides an overview of 20th century Liverpool and the familial backgrounds of John, Paul, George, and Richy (as well as Stuart, Pete, and other important figures in the band's circle), before chronicling the education (academic, musical and otherwise) and development of the greatest band in the world. Not wanting to give away too much, I'll merely say that these four could have easily gone down other paths -- some mundane, some tragic; we can count ourselves extremely lucky that we have the Beatles music at all!!! It's 800 pages and written in painstaking detail, you get to know The Beatles intimately and the people around them. The research undertaken is simply incredible, this is Proustian in its precision. Fascinating to see the greatest band ever experience failure and near misses and their personalities at work- Lennon's vicious bad temper; McCartney's perfectionism etc.. Also the lives of Epstein and Martin are equally fascinating and revealing. Can't wait for Part Two, though that's a few years away!

Great book about a fab band, but told mostly from Paul's perspective.
