Turn In The Road (2011) - Plot & Excerpts

Aiiiiieee!! Revolting. I thought a story about an elderly mother & daughter making a cross-country trip by car would be interesting, but it's just a silly romance where it appears that all the characters' worries & problems will be solved by finding them a man. Don't know if I'll manage to stagger through the whole thing.Finished. Can't believe I read the whole thing. The ending was so cheesy I actually barfed. When I first found this book at my library book store I was hesitant towards buying it. The premise just sounded weird and cheesy. I have to admit all I really saw in the synopsis was 50 year reunion meeting up with a past love. It seemed a bit strange to me. It was $2 on sale for a $1, by one of my favorite authors, so I couldn't exactly pass it up. I have to say that I wasn't disappointed. It was better than I originally anticipated. A classic road trip, three generations and love. You can't ask for better. There were only two things in this book that irritated me. Annie was in her 20s, but clearly acted like a 12 year old for most of the book. I understand the fact that every child with divorced parents would love for their parents to get back together, but she just took it to an extreme. She was pouty and whiney about it the whole time. After her parents have been divorced for 6 years due to her father being a cheater I really couldn't understand why she was so set on her parents getting back together. I feel like she should have been at least a little happy that her mother found Max, although she did have a right to be apprehensive about it. She just annoyed me the whole book. The other part that annoyed me was Bethanne's indecisiveness. I was totally okay with her having feelings that go back and forth. That part is completely understandable. Just the fact that whenever she'd have a doubt about anything she'd go from one polar feeling to the other. I really can't understand why she let herself be so vulnerable around Grant, he didn't deserve her so I don't understand why she wasted so much time thinking about him. It did come to a good ending and I did enjoy the ride getting there. Pun definitely intended. If you like Debbie's other books, I would recommend this one. I did enjoy it!
