Turning Pages (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

Not a cookie cutter version of Pride and Prejudice. I did love the fact that Addie and Blake work in a library. And Addie loves to read! Way too late into the night too. A girl after my own heart! I also enjoyed the list of recommended reads that Addie loves. I haven't read many of the books on the list, but I'm thinking I need to change that. I wasn't a fan of the fact that Blake starts off already engaged, but the split was handled nicely which I appreciated. I also liked that they end on a happy note, but not "oh we're getting married now". Because they are still very young. In fact, a marriage does try to happen (aside from Blake's I mean) but it's for a terrible reason and is treated carefully as it should be. Cute and fluffy! This was a sweet story, but the link to Pride and Prejudice was almost non-existent. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't been searching for links to P&P. I found Addie really likeable and it was nice to have a heroine who wasn't too perfect, but I had some trouble with Blake. For almost the whole book he is engaged to someone else and it seems like when that's suddenly over, he just made a transfer to Addie. I would have liked it better if he just had a girlfriend and it didn't work out, instead of already planning a wedding which is cancelled over some stupid argument. So, if you want a quick enjoyable read with a lovely heroine and an ok hero, you're fine with this one, but if you want a modern young-adult Pride and Prejudice, read Pride and Popularity by Jenni James or Epic fail by Claire LaZebnik.

I love Pride & Prejudice but this sorta-retelling just wasn't for me...
