'Twas The Night After Christmas (Hellions Of Halstead Hall, #6) (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

Sabrina Jeffries is one of my most favorite authors in historical romance. Her books always have everything you could possibly want. Romance, action, drama, humor, the list goes on. As always this book did not disappoint. It's July I know but I decided I was going to follow that whole Christmas in July tradition and read a holiday based book. What better book for that than Twas the Night After Christmas. First off, who doesn't think the name Pierce isn't smexy sexy for a man. It's so thoroughly masculine making it very easy to picture the dark haired Pierce Waverly. And he had the personality to fit the package. Dark and brooding, moody, controlling (to begin with), but with a heart of gold. . . he just doesn't realize this at first. Then Camilla Stuart comes into his life. A woman on a mission determined to force the Earl to see the error of his ways. She doesn't plan on getting involved in a family history that even stumps herself. Whose side is she supposed to take? And how is she supposed to avoid the irresistible Earl when he strikes up a bargain she can hardly refuse. She wants to help him figure out the mystery that caused his mother to send him away when he was only a boy, but in searching they get more than they bargain for. Pierce has to let go of the past to be able to allow love in. Camilla's afraid Pierce will never be able to accept her in the form she wants to be accepted as long as he clings to what could have been instead of what could be. However, both Pierce and Camilla will figure out that leaning on each other might not be so bad after all. Now go grab a copy! This was a great story. It takes place at the country estate Dower house of Pierce Waverly, the Earl of Devonmont. He has been estranged from his mother for many years. She and his father had banned him from home when he was 8. His father was a cruel man and Pierce knew that he forced his mother to abandon him. But he always harbored bad feelings for her, feeling as if she did not fight for him. His mother's companion, Camilla, realized how hurt she was over his refusal to acknowledge her efforts at a reconciliation. Therefore, she sent a letter to Pierce claiming his mother was deathly ill just to get him there. It worked. The story revolves around unfolding the mystery of his years of abandonment and the real reasons behind it. It had a very satisfying ending. Loose ends are tied up quite nicely and the HEA is truly beautiful.Loved it.
