Two States-The Story Of My Marriage (MOVIE TIE-IN EDITION) (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

Tamilians v/s PunjabisThat should have been a better title. The book is a lovely page turner, good amount of research done, characters are superbly created. The blend and the infusion of the two most vivid and different cultures makes it something non-cliché. The language, just like his other books is simple and bland. The verbal wars between the going-to-be in-laws is spellbinding. The book celebrates the feeling of Indian-ness. The romance is quite passionate and fast. The book also touches soft, delicate topics like the bond between a son and his drunkard father. Their equation is inflammable and explosive. With a jerk here and there, it explodes. Boom. The book urges to let go of the hidden feelings in you and blossom a new relation.Overall, the book is better compared to his latest work Half Girlfriend, whose plot was entirely predictable. I would go with 4 stars. Well,It started a bit slow and I was always trying to mentally compare it to "5 point someone" and "3 mistakes of my life" so I was initially a little disappointed but Boy, did I know what was coming up next, as chapters passed I got so much into the storyline that I did not even have track of time and finished it in one go.What I liked is:Simple, easy and lively language,a potent mixture of humour and satire made on the cultures and the practices being followed in each state and the chemistry between the lead characters. This is highly recommended from my side and please don't try and compare it to any classics, try reading it with a clean slate and you will have a smile on your face by the time you are done with this book.
