Where was he? What had happened? What did he remember? Not much. He opened his eyes and took in his immediate surroundings. Dimmed lights. Strange bed. IV bottle. Hospital? The rush of sudden memory prior to waking hit him so hard he closed his eyes to keep from fading back into unconsciousness. The bank. The robbery. The vault. The gunshots. Emma Rae! Damn it. Where is she? His eyes popped open again. He lifted his head and searched the small room. Windows to his left, a privacy curtain to his right, but no door in visual range. He tried to sit up but found his limbs didn’t seem to have an iota of strength for the task. Near his left hand was wire attached to a call button. He grabbed it and pushed the button very hard and repeatedly. After what seemed like an hour, a nurse appeared. “Mr. Traynor. You’re awake.” She seemed surprised. What the hell? “You’ve been out for quite a while.”
