Une Saison Pleine De Promesses (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
Ok, I'll admit it. I was a little bit disappointed. I'd never read a book of this sort before but the cover was pretty and so I thought it'd be nice to try a Christmas book. It is true that most of the stories had little if any relation to Christmas and they were predictable and repetitive with several boring characters that were so similar to each other, it almost became difficult to distinguish from one story to the other.That said, I must point out this IS chick-lit so...you know...what do you really expect? However, being a softie as I am, I did think quite a few of the stories were very sweet and so for a bit of light-reading I found them quite enjoyable. The problem with this book is: it starts getting boring when you have 19 stories (although lovely and sweet) that are almost exactly the same! I may have enjoyed this more if it was titled differently, although I probably wouldn't have picked it up if it was. I grabbed this for a fun December read, hoping to get in the Christmas spirit. While the stories were enjoyable (in a predictable, chick-lit way), there was very little that made me think of Christmas. A few Christmas puddings or descriptions of snow, but the majority of the stories could happen at any time of year. Misleading title aside, it was fast and quite sweet, although occasionally bordering on saccharine. If you are in the mood for something in between Chicken Soup For The Soul and Sophie Kinsella, this would hit the spot. However, I don't think that I'll be picking up more by Cathy Kelly.

Love Cathy Kelly, and this book is great. A compilation of short stories.
