Unexpected Waltz (2014) - Plot & Excerpts

A book that starts off on the right step, but then looses balances and pacing as you go along. Near the finish, you feel like you and you partner (the book) are not quite waltzing to the same tune.I liked the premise of the story, but the main character would mention another character and you would have no idea whom she was talking about. It wasn't until a couple of chapters or pages later that you would find out the background of the second character.About halfway through the book, I really lost interest and started skimming to get to the end. I had committed enough that I needed to see the story through to the end, but I didn't care at that point. Kelly Wilder Madison finds that she has walked into Canterbury Ballroom in Charlotte, North Carolina, when she meant to walk into the grocery store next door. At fifty-two, she has recently lost her older husband and has no idea what the next step in her life should be. Kelly never thought of making that next step dancing, but she’s also never believed in accidents. So when she is offered a free introductory lesson, she takes it. After spending the past twenty years of her life, “pretending to be a whole lot nicer, stupider, and more conservative than she really is,” Kelly must step out of her comfort zone. The Unexpected Waltz is the tale of a woman finding herself without a man in her life. Kelly has always had a man in her life and allowed that man to define her. Now she's on her own and branching out to figure out the woman she can be. The incorporation of a hospice patient, a young mother named Carolina, this book reminds readers to cherish the time that is left. Carolina, along with Nik, Kelly's dance instructor, and Elyse, Kelly's free-spirited long-time friend, help Kelly to remember that she did have a life before men and learn how to live and enjoy life to the fullest extent.
