Unsterblich Wie Die Nacht (2000) - Plot & Excerpts

I almost feel bad for giving this one more star than a few other books, but it's brain candy, and I like brain candy. I read it in 2 sittings, probably a total of 3 or 4 hours, and didn't feel like I'd strained a single brain cell doing so.The odd part was that I'd swear I've read an entire series of books just like this- and previous to 2008, when this was published. But I'm wracking my brain, and I can't for the life of me think of the titles or the authors. But there's an entire series of trashy romance novels based on this entire premise- that some vampires (Carpathians in that series) can mate with special humans. The sex in those books is a little raunchier, if I remember right, and the storylines overall more in-depth.So that part's weird, because this book seems so derivative (if, indeed, one can apply 'derivative' to a genre that's basically the same 3 or 4 themes over and over, SORRY trashy romance novel world, but it's true... and I wish I had the knack for derivation myself so's I could jump on that bandwagon and make some bucks), but it's still very pleasant a diversion and amusing enough to read. A tad simplistic, and again simply reminds me of a better written series which I WISH I could remember the name of, but there you go. This book reminded me of so many others but was unique as well. Angelica is like Sookie Stackhouse, she can read minds. Also like Sookie and Bella, Angelica falls in love with vampire. Like my new favorite Gardella Vampire Chronicles, it's set in Victorian England.Angelica learns about vampires about 1/2 through the book and struggles with the knowledge. I liked the play between Angelica and Alexander. Angelica's smart but sheltered. Alexander is worldly but guarded. The other characters needed some work. Angelica's friend, Joanna, was very flimsy and needed to be a stronger character. I would have liked Angelica's brother, Mikhail, more fleshed out as well. For a debt novel, I found the writing good and well paced. I can see this becoming a series easily. They left it wide open for that. I enjoyed it. Recommend for other paranormal romance fans.
