I guess she figured it was up to me to decide if I wanted to take it further. Mom was clearly in a state of shock after the officer left. I’ve never seen her so pale and withdrawn before. I look at her reflection in the glass door of the station and nod. I’m sure. I think of little Taylor, lying alone in the hospital, with no support from anyone.
