This book is just 282 pages of Aidan O'Connor whining and griping. If you want to read that many pages about a whiny-ass, weak-ass, pathetic excuse for a man - then more power to you. Have at it.He flicked the lid off his beer and held it up to the photos of his 'family' that he kept on his mantel next to his five Oscars. "Fuck you all very much," he said snidely. But in the end, he knew the truth. He was the only one who'd been royally screwed. He'd put his trust in all the wrong people and now he was left alone to deal with the devastation they'd foisted on him - because he'd dared to love them more than he'd loved himself.Life was nothing if not pain and he was the king of it.Two years ago, he'd lived and died for those assholes on the mantel. Had given freely to them, hand over fist, wanting them to have a better life than the hell he'd known growing up.And even though he'd given all but his life to them, it hadn't been enough. They'd been deceitful and selfish. Unsatisfied with his extravagant gifts, they'd begun taking, and when he'd dared to question them about their theft, they'd gone after the only thing he'd had left. His reputation and livelihood.Yeah, people were sick and he was tired of the Judases all around him. His days of being used by others for what they could suck out of him were over.Okay, now imagine reading whiny stuff like this for over 200 pages. This whining goes on and on and on and on.I was like, "Shut the f*ck up, stop whining, stand up and start acting like a man! Yeah, life sucks. Big deal. Stop whining like a toddler and grow a ball or two!"So unbelievably pathetic. There's only one line I really liked: He'd had enough knives planted in his spine to make a stegosaurus envious. That was a great line! I loved it.Kenyon tries to soften the sting of this terrible novel by giving us a little "Kenyon's world Christmas" story at the end. We are allowed to peek into all our favorite characters lives and see how they are spending Christmas. That was a nice gesture, but it doesn't make up for the time I spent reading this novel.1 REAL STAR, 1 ROMANCE STAR

What do You think about Upon The Midnight Clear (2007)?

*Contains detailed sex scene* Okay, so I love this series but Sherrilyn Kenyon...what are you doing? This was the worst book of the series. And I thought the Dream-Hunter book before it was bad....it aint got nothing on this one. The Dark-Hunter and Were-Hunter books are brilliant, but the Dream-Hunter books? Not so much. I thought the first book I’d read was bad, but this was worse. While they’re still decent books they’re nowhere near the kind of books I expect from Ms. Kenyon. This book was la

www.nightowlromance.com - Well, I feel bad that I didn’t enjoy this book (please don’t throw things if you are a big fan). I thought that since I didn’t like the first Dream-Hunter novel, that maybe it was a fluke and I wanted to give the series another chance. I have enjoyed Ms. Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter books in the past and I want to like the other books that take place in that world, but I can’t. The writing is a tad melodramatic and a little cheesy. I feel like we don’t really get to know Leta or Aidan. Aidan is a movie star soured on human contact by the betrayal of his family. His brother, Donnie, performs a human sacrifice in order to wake the god Dolor. He wants the god to destroy Aidan for him. Leta is a goddess, one of the Dream-Hunters, who put herself in stasis to heal after her last battle with Dolor. She wakes when Donnie releases Dolor. She goes to the human world in order to protect Aidan but also to use his anger to fuel her powers so she can defeat Dolor. I feel like this was just a quickie story that was dragged out to seem like a full-length novel. I think it would have been better served as a short story in an anthology. The best part about this book is the vignettes at the end of the book featuring characters from the other books. We get a glimpse of how they are celebrating the holidays and some lovely foreshadowing about Ash and his book that comes out this year (woohoo). I will be tuning in for that. Unfortunately, this will be the last book I read by Ms. Kenyon that isn’t a Dark-Hunter book.Reviewer: Leslee© Night Owl Romance 2007-2008
