I am a great fan of Nicole Edwards and own all of her books, that said I must confess this book disappointed me. Something was lacking, there was no chemistry between Dalton and Katie and the hints of her having a huge secret were annoying. Does anybody believe you can hide a child in a small community like Devil’s Bend for five years? And which employer/ friend remains ignorant about an employee’s/friend’s address? It felt like the author did not know what Katie’s secrets were and then she threw in some unprotected sex resulting in a pregnancy, misunderstandings, miscommunication, problems you get to read in other novels too, the result a boring average story. Review done for Hooked on Books4 out of 5 starsDalton Calhoun is a sexy country star who is looking to settle down permanently somewhere. He follows his friend Cooper to Devil’s Bend, Texas to help work on Cooper’s rehabilitation ranch. At the local bar where Dalton sometimes performs, he meets the beautiful waitress Katie Clarren. She is not like most of the women he has met before; Katie doesn’t immediately throw herself at him.Intrigued by the sweet Katie, Dalton pursues her and eventually takes her virginity.Sparks fly but suddenly Katie up and leaves after a perfect night together.Dalton is confused and Katie is very closed off. He doesn’t really know anything about her. When secrets are revealed both are left hurting. This was a sweet love story. I found it took a while to get into this book. Once things started to fall into place, the story picked up.I think this was a good follow up to Chasing Dreams and recommend both books to read.
