I very much enjoyed this novel! I am a huge fan of fantasy and sci fi novels, and the way that this one started out left me skeptical at first, but then I became entranced and invested in Brett's struggles, finding myself wanting to learn and grow with her. I loved the detail of the new world, Verita. It was incredible, the amount of detail and thought the author put into it. I rarely gushingly rave about a book, but this one was one I found myself enjoying immensely and will be reading again. I can't wait to acquire the second book. As an author myself, who does cliffhanger endings, I want to congratulate this author on the use of it--I almost bought the second on the spot. Fantastic story, well-rounded and detailed characters, and a world I would love to go to myself (I'm a biologist!) (David-reviews.com Check me out :D)The beginning of Verita was really boring. I hate to sound like a jerk, but I didn't care about the loss of her parents or the fact that her boyfriend moved on within a week of her being put in foster care. I didn't care that her foster parents were a real pain. I almost regretted spending my money on this. But then all of a sudden, some guy is offering her a literal ticket off the planet and it got so much better. When Brett woke up on Verita she discovered they assigned a job to her and somehow got her to learn all the knowledge she needed as a biologist. It was actually pretty awesome. I can't even imagine going to sleep and waking up with mass amounts of new knowledge. The only complaint I have about this part of the book is that the procedure of acquiring this knowledge not explained. Though I do have my own ideas.I love the world building of Verita. I could visualize the whole compound from its dirt paths to the married housing units. When Brett, Ryan, and the rest of the team explored the forrest outside the fence, everything seemed so exotic. It was interesting seeing a new world through scientific eyes. I even relearned a few things I forgot after high school. The plot line was pretty straight forward. Until the end that is. I had actually guessed the underlying conspiracy in the beginning but I won't tell you what the possible brainwashing was about. Once Brett figures it out herself it definitely explains a lot. So keep an eye out for unusual behavior. The character development was pretty good. No one was bland, everyone had a distinct personality. But for the sake of keeping this readable I wont expand on this.I do have some complaints. As I had already mentioned, that beginning was brutal. I almost put the book down because of it. Just power through that part and trust me it gets better. The second complaint I have is the fact that Brett is a biologist that only mentions three animals. Why did we only learn about those three animals in this world? They lived in the middle of a forest and all she decided to acknowledge was the Meerkits, Enux, and the Pan-wolf? It just doesn't make sense that I learned more about the deadly plants then I did about animals. I honestly loved this book. I highly recommend it even though Brett is a crummy biologist learning to be a botanist.
What do You think about Verita (2011)?
Absolutely amazing book! I bought the second book before I was even a 1/4 away through the first.

I didn't like the ending. Even in a series I want an ending to a story not for it to just stop.
