"Verkaufen Sie Auch Bücher?" - Kuriose Kundenfragen In Buchhandlungen (2014) - Plot & Excerpts
If you have ever had experience in retail than you will know the all to well situation of groaning and holding back a laugh when a customer asks or requests something so blatantly stupid or frustrating. No, I will not be able to serve you a coffee. This is a candle store. (This is a request I get all too often which is often followed by dirty looks when I clarify that in fact gift retailers don’t often or ever contain coffee facilities.)Weird Things Customers Say In Bookstores is painfully realistic. Whether you have worked in retail, a bookstore, or just really love books - you will love this novel. By love, I mean sigh, cringe, giggle and curse humanity multiple times throughout. You may even find yourself (secretly) empathising with some of *those* customers. Yes, I’m talking about the guy who said “What books could I buy to make guests look at my bookshelf and think: ‘Wow, that guy’s intelligent?” Let’s be real here, most people have done it at some stage. I find Sigmund Freud interesting but have I read all his books that I own? No. Will I Ever? Probably not Maybe…..Some of these said customers are quoted to have asked such obvious questions, but lets not forget the time I was approached by a guy who wanted to know if the methylated spirits we were selling were a drink. It went something like this.Customer: *Picks up fireplace fuel bottle* Can I drink this?Me: um….Customer: (genuinely annoyed) So is it a drink or not?!?!Me: No it’s not, it’s methylated spirits.Customer: So I can’t drink it?Me: Let me know how it goes for you if you do.For Fans Of:Pretending to not notice that customer at the front of your store (An expert textbook written and performed by yours truly)Sequel coming soon: “Oh I totally didn’t hear the phone ring!! My Bad!”The Verdict:★★★★★ I really enjoyed this book and it had some really hilarious moments! One of my favourites was-CUSTOMER- I've just discovered that I'm Brad Pitt's sister and David Cameron's cousin. Is there a biography about me?I also really liked the one about Twilight, Wuthering Heights, Voldemort and Edward Cullen. I really enjoyed those things but the only things that put my rating down to 4 stars was that it was repetitive and I didn't laugh as much as I thought I would. Most of it was- do you sell bath plugs? Do you sell ice?Which got to me but I will still recommend this to people and read the sequel.
