I personally did not like this book that much. It was really confusing for me with the whole psychic thing, how she could supposedly read minds yet didn't appear to understand anyone and their motivations. She heard Gusty's "thoughts" (the word "sick" was repeated when he thought about her and her appearance but she took it as negative rather than understanding the positive connotation). She kept hinting at past dramas but it took basically the entire book to explain them. She kept wrongfully judging people while still affirming that she was, indeed, psychic. And really, the whole thing with her mom and the cat. The mom would obviously know something was wrong because her allergies started getting worse. She would not just write it off and get on with her life. And the main character was just so insensitive. Instead of trying to help her mom in a difficult situation, she just shut her out of her life. And really she was so incredibly ignorant. She constantly tried to tear people down and didn't even realize the things people around her were dealing with. And still she tried to cling to the notion that she was psychic. Her whole characterization was flawed and incredibly confusing. It was filled with contradictions. She claimed to be psychic but was incredibly unattuned to people's feelings. She tried to prank people but was upset when they got hurt (though obviously it was bound to happen). She was really rebellious and liked to act out yet didn't smoke more than once and it didn't even cross her mind until her friend Mallory (another character that was incredibly confusing) suggested it. The whole book was really confusing and I couldn't figure out half of what the main character was doing. Additionally, from what it seemed like, in two years she went from being a completely normal girl to being a girl who thought she was psychic, blocked out the world, played cruel jokes on people, and was just generally confusing. And there is no way that in real life her love interest would fall in love with her. She was vicious, she was completely blind, she thought she was psychic. He was nice, he was sweet, he was good-looking and popular, the typical boy next door. Yet he loved both the version of herself before she became crazy and the version post-puberty (when her dad left her). She was just generally confusing, as was the story. The plot, especially, was confusing. It moved really slowly half the time, then suddenly started to move really fast when her dad came back. The first half I was wondering when it was going to start and by the end I was surprised, completely confused, and wondering how it had ended so fast and what had happened. In conclusion, I did not like this book very much (obviously). However, I did like some of the supporting characters, although her dad was a jerk. I really love Amy's Sky Chaser series but I couldn't even finish listening to the audio book of this one. The narrator plays a large factor in that (really whiny, and I think she forgot which character had a lisp because she would go in and out of lisping no matter which character she was portraying.)The MC is awful, she sets traps so that people slip and fall or get pelted with dirt in their eyes and then rushes over to help them so then they praise her. She's really judgemental and I can't be bothered sticking with it to find out if she improves because I won't believe it if she does.
What do You think about Vibes (2008)?
I liked it but the main character was a little too self centered, rude, and pessimistic for me.
