Washington Rules: America's Path To Permanent War (2010) - Plot & Excerpts

I appreciated the history related portion of the book, especially regarding Vietnam, and the similarities that may be questioned in the recent wars in the middle east. I did not like the author's writing style and throughout the book felt he had an agenda - while being justly critical of the way some wars were started, prosecuted, and prolonged, he was simply critical, offering idealistic but non-pragmatic alternatives. It was a thought provoking book in regards to the global political picture and the United States role going forward. I definitely learned something reading this book. The book covered many areas I was unfamiliar with and gave a historical background on how we got to the position we are in now in respect to permanent war. For those of us unfamiliar with the inner workings of the military in our government and how deeply involved they are it offers quite an eye-opener. It's something I knew, but I didn't realize how far it went. The writing is a bit choppy and academic in places and doesn't always flow very well for a book designed for mass publication, but overall its a good read if you are interested in the subject matter.

What do You think about Washington Rules: America's Path To Permanent War (2010)?

Very informative about the US Washington war machine and the pressure to be in wars for profits.
