I'm surprised I didn't go into sugar shock while reading this book. It revels in its schmaltz -- talk about insta-love. But it still worked for me. I bought into this couple and rooted for their HEA. Jamie was a laughable cop, and Dmitri wasn't much better (actually worse) as a mafia figurehead. Luckily, the author didn't try to make us buy them as hardened professionals. Instead, the concentration was on these sweet men and their instant (and I mean instant) love and attraction for each other. I suspended disbelief and went with it. I liked both MCs, and I loved how caring and protective they were toward each other. The story dragged a bit toward the end, but for the most part, I enjoyed the book. I'll be reading Charlie's story. Probably an ok read if you're willing to make gigantic leaps over plot holes and can accept ridiculous leaps of logic and believability. The world's worst undercover cop/detective meets the the world's worst mafia bossy and they fall instantly in love after one back alley blowjob and love happily every after after two weeks of teen chick flick antics. The sex scenes were probably the best part, but even those became repetitive and excessive. Another book where my rating doesn't match GRs. It happens. Probably a good pickup for a mindless smutty beach read if you can snag it for the $ .99
