I'd say my actual rating is about 3.5 stars. I have to admit I didn't think the book was all that "weird" until a certain point more than halfway through the novel, but it wasn't necessarily bad, just really odd. It just seemed to have a number of usual urban fantasy themes going on until then, so it didn't take me out of it too much, but the novel is unusual and unique, I'll definitely give it that. Plus, it's a quick read. The humor however, is what makes it. Forget the plot - the character interactions were amusing and I found myself laughing at some of the dialogue and thought processes going on here. I think ultimately the characters fell a little flat but I don't think it was ever really about them to begin with. Anyway, if you're looking for something serious, this probably isn't the book for you. But it's not a bad read either. It's definitely entertaining. It started off feeling a bit like Scott Pilgrim in novel form. It seemed like a modern slacker novel and then as the title promised things started getting weird.Unfortunately it headed into the "modern supernatural" pastiche which is too bad because I was hoping for something different. It's also got a bad case of the back-of-the-jacket blurb gives away a twist that happens at about 65% of the way through the book. I hate it when they do that.
What do You think about Weirdness, The: A Novel (2014)?
Entertaining, and the arrival of the Protector of Cows was a pleasant surprise.
