Wer Schlafende Hunde Weckt: Roman (2000) - Plot & Excerpts
2014 Book Lovers Calendar - Friday, September 5, 2014:This is the first of a crime series set in Glasgow, Scotland and featuring two female sleuths. One is Detective Inspector Catherine McLeod and the other is Private Investigator Jasmine Sharp. Brookmyre does a fantastic job of fleshing out these women and allowing their personal lives to bring even greater meaning to their investigations into two seemingly unrelated murders. Fans of Tana French and Kate Atkinson will particularly like this one.Unfortunately for me despite the hype, I just could not get into this. I read 12 chapters giving the author a chance to pull the disparate stories together and it did not happen. I can't waste my limited time left on this earth on books that just don't grab me from the jump. I apologize to those who love this author but they should be able to grab your attention within 2-3 chapters, otherwise what's the point? Life is just too short. Despite this being the first in the series,I read the second first, and its probably a good thing, as it gave me a chance to get over the lack of sarcastic/black humour I love Brookmyre for.The second book is a better book I think, but that's often the way, as the first in the series is plotting the path ahead with places and people.Still a decent story, and I'll be looking for book three soon.
