This is positively exquisite. The best of the series. Readers everywhere will swoon over John Roark.Lovely young Prudence, the third wallflower, has lived with a secret for years: she had been raped. (IVE don't think this is a spoiler, its the first chapter.). She never told anyone, for fear of being ruined, but it changed everything, it changed her from vivacious to wilting and unnoticed, terrified to ever be even touched by a man. Events ensue, and she finds herself hoofing it in the middle of no where. Handsome young John Roark comes upon her, but honors her wish to be left alone on the road. Happily, they run into each other again. And he is just the most perfect romantic hero: courageous, understanding, witty, intelligent, damaged, handsome, trustworthy, kind, gentle, rough, dark haired, blue eyed perfection. This book isn't perfect. Things move along too fast for my liking, and the grand denouement and resolution was a bit unrealistic. I did enjoy the "are you there God? its me, Prudence" line. 3.5 stars. Prudence has had an awful time over the past few years and her experiences have left her unable to get close to anyone. She is afraid that she'll be the only person ever from her school not to marry by the end of her fourth season so she agrees to a marriage of convenience and tries to elope. However the carriage carrying her and her prospective husband is set upon by highwaymen and she ends up escaping on her own. This leads her to a small town and a handsome gentleman who calls himself Lord Castleton. Due to bad weather, Prudence and Castleton end up stranded for days at the same inn and become very close over that time. When the weather clears up, they both return to London together and Prudence learns that Castleton has been keeping a big secret from her which makes her wonder if she was right to consider trusting someone again. The story stalled a bit here for me as the focus moved to the secret rather than the relationship between the main characters.I really enjoyed this story, especially the time Prudence and Castleton spend getting to know each other at the inn. This book covers some tough subject matter and does it really well in my opinion. It's quite a touching love story. This was the first book I've read by this author and I look forward to reading more. I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway.
What do You think about What A Wallflower Wants (2014)?
This was wonderful. Not standard at all, and refreshingly written.
