I love a romance with mystery thrown in. Kimberly Lewis did that with her first ever novel, When the Heart Falls. This is a story of a woman betrayed by her husband and longing for trust and security. It’s about a man caught in the crossfires of a greedy rancher. Both find themselves walking the same path with their lives hanging in the balance as well as their feelings for each other. They discover a love as they discover dark treachery around them.I enjoyed how well Ms. Lewis described the emotions of her characters. I felt the pain, hurt, and anger felt as well as the fear and longing. That is not always easy to do especially as a first time writer. Emotional descriptions can make or break a story. In this case, these narratives were crucial to the story and were done well. Without them, this would not have been such a strong story. The mystery was not too much of a mystery for the reader as I knew from the beginning who was behind the unfortunate events. It is a mystery to the characters which makes it more interesting from the reader’s point of view. It can be entertaining to watch the main characters unknowingly interacting with the guilty party.Ms. Lewis has a very enjoyable story here that will be a good summer reader for the beach or the backyard. This is the perfect book for anyone that likes romance with a touch of mystery thrown in.*Disclosure of Material Connection: I am a member of The Virtual Book Tour Cafe' and a copy of this book was provided to me by the author. Misty's husband/soon to be ex-husband is a cheater and a liar.Dylan is home after his father was killed in a car accident. There is a rancher, Trent Montgomery, who wants Misty's family ranch and Dylan's family ranch. There is a smidge of love, romance, mystery, crime, happily ever after. Had the author focused on the love or romance or mystery or crime or happily ever after this would have been a BETTER book. One thing I will say, I haven't read a totally finished book, dating, love, proposal, marriage, kids. 0 to 100%, that I like. A LOT.

This is a typical romance with no big surprise ending, but it's an enjoyable, easy read.
