When I saw this book at a thrift store, I was hesitant to buy it. It sounded like it could be a very, very sad book to read. But I decided to give it a try and I am so glad I did. I LOVED this book! One reviewer said that he couldn't get into the main character. I didn't have that problem at all. I loved the main character, Gerry. I could relate to the scene where he lost his wife and didn't want to leave the hospital and leave her. I felt the exact same way when my mother passed away. You know when you walk out that door that you will never be able to see her again. Yes, some of the scenes were sad but none of them caused me to cry. I loved how Gerry was so observant and was able to put into words things I could barely bring to thought. He was so patient with his son and able to view his world at his level; like when he could see how the child's world would change when he began to walk. I'm probably not saying that very well so you will have to read the book . I was so impressed with this author that I have ordered his book Crossing the Bridge and can't wait to start reading it! I don't really know what to say about this book, it was good and all, but I guess it really doesn't stay with me like some other books do that will constantly have me going back in my head to revisit it. It was a nice story, watching as our main character started to get into the rhythm of parenthood the second time around, but that was about it, there was some romance in it, and maybe that's my problem there wasn't as much as I'd hoped or wanted, but overall good read that got really good about the last couple pages.

Quick romance requiring little thought. The perfect book at the end of a long day.
