While We Were Watching Downton Abbey (2013) - Plot & Excerpts
it has to be said that i picked up this book because i love the television show and the title had me curious! while it could be said that this book was rather predictable, i thought the story was really fun. based around a story of girlfriends who all are very different, it is easy to find at least one character that you relate to and sympathize with. there was a little light comedy throughout the story that i really appreciated and kept the story fun. while you don't necessarily need to have watched "downton abbey" before reading this it definitely helps. there is a lot of references to the show and, without watching it, i fear that the reader would not appreciate it as much had they watched the show. i also really liked the variety of characters, their different personalities, and the individual problems that they are each overcoming. simply stated, this is a fun story about a group of women who learn to lean on one another to get through obstacles, whether their obstacles are large or small. this is a very nice book about the power and importance of friendship, with a little drama that will keep you turning the pages. definitely pick this chick lit up! The title is pretty much self-explanatory -- it's about three women who become friends while watching the first two series of Downton Abbey. What I liked best about the book is how it echoes bits of the series. Samantha is sometimes a bit like Mary, other times like Cora; Brooke is like Daisy, Gwen or Anna in her efforts to better herself and find love; Edward, the concierge at their lavish apartment, The Alexander, is Carson; you've even got a Thomas-like figure in Samantha's brother. If you're looking for a good beach read -- or a book to read during the week while you wait for the next episode of Downton -- then this is a good one.
What do You think about While We Were Watching Downton Abbey (2013)?
I wanted to like it but I didn't. The characters were boring and victims.
