Who the hell would set Izzy up with that fool? Laney, that’s who. I spot Izzy darting out the exit and tell Cole to man the fort. I thread my way through the crowd and land outside where the night jasmine lights up the air with its sweet perfume. Not as sweet as Izzy. It took all my self-control not to bury my face in her hair. She holds the scent of lilacs in springtime. That was a contact high right there. “Izzy,” I shout as she’s about to take off in her faded blue Honda Civic. She starts up the engine and rolls down the passenger window. “Did I leave something behind? A douchebag trying to stick his tongue in my ear?” You can see the sarcasm dripping from her lips, and, ironically, I want to lick that up, too. Hell, I’d lick up anything Izzy offered. “Just me.” I give a sheepish grin. Her dark hair flows over her shoulder like a smoky, black river. Her eyes cut through the dark like twin stars born at midnight.
