Whistle Blowing (2012) - Plot & Excerpts

There's so much of a focus on the medical/care taking/physical aspects of healing Daren (in quite vivid detail) in this book and for me not nearly enough on the emotional aspects of the characters. The healing/medical part went on for maybe half the book and I began skimming. The latter part gets more into the actual story, and there's a bit of sex near the end. If medical kink is your thing, this might be just the ticket? Have to mention that perhaps part of my dissatisfaction with this book is how very much the beginning was similar to another story I read and enjoyed quite a bit more. 2 stars . . . it was ok. 4.5 stars rounded upWOW!! That was another AMAZINGLY awesome short story. The suspense/mystery side of it was thrilling and the romance was slow paced, caring, subtle, and incredibly heartfelt. Reading this story was so entertaining and I’m surprised that it was free. Our MCs were spectacularly written and individually they were strong, brave heroes – although they may not think of themselves as such, their actions were plainly heroic and selfless. Both putting their lives on the line; Daren for justice and Sebastian to save Daren’s life, a perfect stranger. The supporting characters, Rachael and Agent Joseph Kim, were wonderful! Rachael’s marine/tactical attitude and Agent Kim sense of justice (similar to Daren) were charming additions to a story that was 90% focused on the MCs (I love that!) I found it hilarious that only Rachael was proficient and comfortable with guns given that Agent Kim and Sebastian are technically FBI and ex-Navy – and the two men even had the cheekiness to very reasonably shout their excuses of “White Collar Agent” and “Medic Corps.” LOL!This would have been 5 huge stars for me, but the ending was disappointing. After all the hardships and pain we read through, the story ended way too abruptly. We only get about half a page to breath and relax from the car chase and gunfire before reading the dreaded “The End.” I would have wanted several pages to read the characters laugh about the close call, a few more hugs and kisses between the MCs and immerse myself with the characters at their tropical beach destination as they start their HEA and also see how justice was served to the Delaware family. Also, I didn’t realize this until the end but aside from the reference to Daren being violently violated, this story is actually very mild in the love scene department. I didn’t notice it because the MCs MCs' interactions were so lovingly intimate from the get-go that the way they acted and reacted to each other spoke volumes. Plus more intimate sexual contact would have been too soon considering what Daren went through. Well done!!
