Who Goes There? (2009) - Plot & Excerpts

Kind of found this impossible to get into following the two movie versions and Alan Dean Foster's novelisation of the story from the John Carpenter film. A style from another time. I really wanted to like this, too. Still, slugged it through to the end, and the premise is there and it's still quite Lovecraftian, but it was also very hard to connect with any of the characters. Real old school pulp sci fi. I read this book because it was nominated for the Retro-Hugo Award. This is a taut thriller that examines territory similar to Invasion of the Body Snatchers, i.e., alien invaders taking over human and other animals to such an extent that it's impossible to tell the difference. The alien in this story exhibits one of Campbell's pet beliefs--telepathy, which makes the scenario all the more frightening.

What do You think about Who Goes There? (2009)?

It was the material for John Carpenter's the Thing. The film and book actually are very similar.
